The aim of the course is to analyse at an advanced level a text on the history of philosophy defined at the beginning of the semester. The texts chosen may be by any author known in the field of the history of philosophy, and they are single-authored, typically monographs. The aim of the analysis of the history of philosophy is to examine the historical development of philosophical ideas, theories and movements and to understand their impact on the thinking and cultures of different periods. This approach helps to reveal how philosophical ideas have developed and changed over time, and how different philosophical trends and thinkers have influenced each other. Throughout the semester, we will assign historical context to the text we are working on, analyse contemporary schools of thought, explore the relevant schools of thought that preceded the text, and explore the implications of the text. We will process the text in the most in-depth and reflective way possible. The aim of the course is to prepare students for the independent study and evaluation of further philosophical topics through a deep understanding of a given philosophical text. An important feature of the course is that it is expected that the assigned text(s) (up to 1-2 sheets) be read in advance, week by week, before each exercise.
